The Very Table of Grace

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long.

I'm reading Psalm 23:5 in the context of Holy Week this year, so it would be difficult to read this and not think of the Lord's table, prepared with bread and wine. For indeed the last supper was prepared in the presence of enemies—both within and without. Nonetheless, this table became the very table of grace, and the enemies in whose presence it was prepared were invited to eat and drink with the One whom they would within hours betray, deny, and crucify, that he might become their salvation.
